Monarch Chemicals opts for accurate digital weight indicator from Applied Weighing to increase their production capacity and efficiency

A high performance, digital weight indicator that is the ideal choice for any industrial weighing application has enabled one of the largest and most progressive chemical manufacturers and distributors in the UK to successfully develop their business and increase the capacity of their chemical production area. The 420 Plus digital weight indicator was supplied to Kent based Monarch Chemicals by Applied Weighing, the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of process weighing equipment and load cells, and is now a vital element in the company’s manufacturing operation.

Monarch Chemicals, who have been trading for almost 20 years, originated as chemical distributors. Their business has developed as a direct consequence of responding to their customers ever changing needs and the blending facility at their Kent site is their latest major investment that not only provides them with new up-rated plant and equipment but significantly increases their capacity.

The company, who already had an Applied Weighing Weight Indicator installed at their site, decided to change to a 420 Plus weight indicator in order to increase their production, rather than to improve on it. This allowed them to further develop their company solution of offering businesses the option of outsourcing their chemical blending and manufacturing.

The 420 Plus supplied to Monarch Chemicals by Applied Weighing has a full numeric keyboard that allows tare entry directly from the keyboard for weighing contents of IBC’s, cylinders and containers, eliminating the need to scroll and toggle weight values. It is encased in a tough, all stainless steel IP66/NEMA 4X enclosure so is extremely durable, even in the harshest environments. In addition, it features three-stage RATTLETRAP® digital filtering for eliminating most vibration interference and providing stable, accurate weight data regardless of environment.

The weight indicator also drives up to (8) 350Ω load cells, making it the perfect choice for multi-cell applications, so Monarch Chemicals invested in ‘Baby Safemount’ weighing assemblies from Applied Weighing to work in conjunction with the weight indicator. The ‘Baby Safemount’ weighing assemblies used for this application bring a number of benefits such as their ease of installation and robust construction.  Their design features an integral jacking bolt to isolate and change the load cells and they are nylon coated for exceptional durability. The ‘Safemount’ range is now the industry standard for vessel, tank and hopper weighing and their unique design ensures simple, safe and accurate weighing.

Having successfully operated the system at the factory for a number of months, Trevor Goddard, Group Project Manager at Monarch Chemicals, had no hesitation when asked to comment on how the installation was working for them, he said: “Doing business with Applied Weighing has worked out extremely well for us. The system has helped us more than we could have hoped and their on-going service and support has made the whole process run smoothly. Our confidence in Applied Weighing and their system has enabled our production team to manufacture to a higher degree of accuracy and efficiency. This has allowed the company to develop our chemical blending and manufacturing for UK businesses. We will certainly invite them to tender for any further weighing systems we may need in the future.”

Applied Weighing who not only supplied the instrument but commissioned the installation, also provide a comprehensive supply, install and commissioning package and after-sales service and support.
